Turner’s Congressional Gold Medal and awards at Marine Corps Support Facility New Orleans, April 30, 2015. Frederick D. Turner posthumously received the Congressional Gold Medal, awarded to all Montford Point Marines. Many Montford Point Marines were leaders in the American civil rights movement. Their legacy in the Marine Corps engineered social and cultural changes which created a lasting impact and has greatly contributed to the success of the Marine Corps today.
