Sgt. Maj. Michael J. Rowan, sergeant major of Headquarters Battalion, Marine Forces Reserve, addresses MARFORRES Marines after the Marine Corps’ 240th Birthday cake-cutting ceremony and 3-mile motivational formation run. Each year, all Marines celebrate two birthdays, the day they were born and the day their Corps was founded in Tun Tavern, Philadelphia, Nov. 10, 1775. Since that day, the United States Marine Corps has garnered the reputation as the world's most efficient amphibious fighting force, engaging in combat on battlefronts across the globe since its inception.
