A Marine Combat Engineer sets off a satchel charge that blasts a Japanese defensive position on Iwo To, Japan, during the Battle of Iwo Jima, Feb. 25, 1945. Many of these positions had to be destroyed to prevent the enemy from returning to their shelters and open fire on the Marine flanks.
