Lt. Col Geoff Rollins (center) pins the new rank insignia of master sergeant on Thomas Carroll during a promotion ceremony here Nov. 1, 2008. Rollins was the 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment commanding officer from 2008-2009. Marine Corps Reserve infantry battalions are usually commanded by a reserve lieutenant colonel who deploys with the unit when they mobilize.
