NEW ORLEANS -- Marine Forces Reserve (MFR) will hold a ceremony to recognize the activation of its newest Major Subordinate Command, the Force Headquarters Group, at Marine Corps Support Facility, New Orleans, La., Aug. 6 at 10:00 a.m.
Force Headquarters Group (FHG) was activated July 18 and is commanded by Maj. Gen. Tracy L. Garrett. FHG assumed administrative and operational command of six MFR Force-level units: 3rd and 4th Civil Affairs Groups (CAG), 3rd and 4th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Companies (ANGLICO), Intelligence Support Battalion, and 6th Communications Battalion. Previously these units reported directly to the Commander, Marine Forces Reserve.
The creation of Force Headquarters Group is part of the reshaping of Marine Forces Reserve – a result of the Commandant-directed Force Structure Review (FSR), convened in September 2010. The FSR was a capabilities-based assessment to match the Marine Corps’ capabilities with the Nation’s needs in the future security environment. Future FSR-directed activations will expand the number of FHG subordinate units, further optimizing the Operational Reserve, and provide essential Total Force (active, Reserve, civilian) capabilities that will further enable Marine Forces Reserve to augment and reinforce Active component forces for employment across the full spectrum of crisis and global engagement.
Maj. Gen. Garrett will transfer command to Brig. Gen. Paul K. Lebidine.
