Ensure all military ID cards are current and won’t expire during deployment. Verify that all information in Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) is accurate, especially for dependents.
Where: Appointments can be scheduled online.
When: Before deployment. Do this as soon as you receive notice of mobilization.
Why: Outdated or incorrect information can cause delays in receiving pay, benefits, and healthcare. Dependents may lose access to Tricare benefits if their information is not current.

Veterans Affairs
Be sure you are getting your illnesses/injuries documented to support your VA claim.
Where: To file VA claim once you get back work with a VSO or DAV organization.
When: You should file a disability claim as soon as you return from deployment.
Why: Filing a claim is essential to receive compensation and healthcare for any service-connected conditions. Filing promptly makes it easier to establish the direct link between your conditions and your military service.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)
The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of War program that seeks to promote a culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service.

Readiness Checklists
Use a readiness checklist to ensure you and your family are prepared for deployment.
Where: Your unit should provide you with a checklist (Pre-Deployment handbook).
When: As soon as you receive notice of mobilization.
Why: Checklist will help you remember to take care of important tasks, such as updating documents, arranging for childcare, and making financial preparations.
PII / OPSEC Training
Personally identifiable information (PII) is any data that can be used to identify a specific person.
Where: Be mindful of what you post on social media and what you say in public.
When: Always.
Why: Adversaries can use PII and other sensitive information to target military families. Sharing information about deployment dates, locations, or unit movement can put your loved one at risk.
Psychological Health Outreach Program (PHOP)
PHOP provides support, education, and resources for psychological well-being. This includes mental health awareness, stress management and access to care.
When: Throughout the deployment cycle, including pre-deployment, during deployment, and post-deployment. Access these free services anytime you feel the need.
Why: Maintaining psychological health is crucial for readiness and person well-being. PHOP provides safe, confidential space to address challenges early, reduces stigma, and connects you and your family with supportive resources without impacting your career.

The official DOW personal financial readiness program. Provides tools, articles, and calculators to help manage military pay, create budgets, and prepare for deployment finances.
This site also helps you locate a free, confidential Personal Financial Counselor (PFC) for one-on-one help.
When: Before, during, and after deployment for management, and anytime you have financial questions.
