MISSION: To command and control force-level SMCR units and the Marine Corps Individual Reserve Support Activity, in delegated support of Commander, Marine Forces Reserve’s mission to provide Reserve component units and individuals to augment and reinforce active forces for employment across the full spectrum of crises and global engagement.
Force Headquarters Group (FHG) contains units and capabilities that are unique to the Marine Corps Reserve. Such units include the Civil Affairs Groups which provide civil-military, governance, and infrastructure experts; as well as the only jump qualified Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Companies in the Marine Corps, which are responsible for providing effective fires on targets from various land, sea and air platforms. Additionally, FHG boasts a Law Enforcement Battalion, a Communications Battalion, and an Intelligence Support Battalion.
Force Headquarters Group is also responsible for the administrative readiness of the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) which is managed through the Marine Corps Individual Reserve Support Activity (MCIRSA) out of New Orleans, LA.
Force Headquarters Group and its subordinate units are uniquely qualified to provide specifically skilled augments and detachments in support of ongoing operations including Operation Enduring Freedom, and various other USMC led, joint, and multinational exercises.
Force Headquarters Group was activated in August 2012 as a result of the Commandant directed Force Structure Review Group and is the resulting product of the deactivation of the former Mobilization Command.
