Major Gravelle was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in December 2008 via the Officer Candidate Course. Upon completion of The Basic School in September 2009, he reported to Camp Lejeune, NC, completed the Logistics Officer Course, and was subsequently assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines as the Motor Transportation Officer.
In September 2010, Major Gravelle assumed the duties of the battalion S-4A/Embarkation Officer and deployed to Marjah, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM from January 2011 to July 2011. In November 2011, Major Gravelle was transferred to 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines, and took over as the battalion S-4 Officer. Major Gravelle again deployed to Afghanistan with 3/9 from October 2012 to April 2013.
Upon return from his second deployment, Captain Gravelle reported to Recruiting Station Harrisburg, PA, in May 2013 and was assigned as the Officer Selection Officer, Philadelphia, PA. Major Gravelle resigned his active commission in 2015 to pursue a civilian education and career.
After three years in the Individual Ready Reserve, in December 2018 Major Gravelle joined Marine Wing Support Squadron 471 in Minneapolis, MN and became the squadron S-4 Officer. In July 2020, Major Gravelle took command of H&S Company, MWSS-471, while retaining his duties as the squadron S-4 Officer. In October 2020, Major Gravelle was recalled to active duty to serve as the Site Commander, Detachment (-), MWSS-471 in Minneapolis.
A native of Austin, Minnesota, Major Gravelle holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Carleton College and a Master of Business Administration degree from Duke University. In his civilian career, Major Gravelle works for John Deere, where he has held various positions including Supply Management Project Manager and Manufacturing Operations Team Leader.
Major Gravelle is a Distinguished Graduate of the Expeditionary Warfare School Distance Education Program. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
