Sergeant Major Batista enlisted in the Marine Corps in April of 2002 and completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina on May 19, 2002. Following recruit training; He attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina, and Engineer School at Marine Corps Detachment Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Upon Completion of the Heavy Equipment Mechanics Course, he was assigned the MOS 1341, Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
Following Engineer School, Sergeant Major Batista reported to 2d Force Service Support Group, 2d Maintenance Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in December of 2002 for duty as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. During his tour, he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal, and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I, in Camp Fox Kuwait. Upon return from his deployment, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal and attended the Engineer Equipment NCO Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. In March of 2005, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and received orders to Okinawa, Japan.
In April of 2005, Sergeant Major Batista reported for duty with 3d Transportation Support Battalion, Support Company, Okinawa Japan and was assigned as the Quality Control NCO and Battalion Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructor. In April of 2006, he received orders to 2d Marine Logistics Group, Camp, Lejeune, North Carolina.
In May of 2006, Sergeant Major Batista reported for duty to 2d Marine Logistics Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion-6, and served as the Maintenance Chief for the Heavy Equipment Platoon. He deployed to Camp Fallujah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. He was selected to the rank of Staff Sergeant and requested orders to Drill Instructor school class 3-08 at MCRD Parris Island, SC. Upon returning from deployment, he was reassigned to Combat Logistics Regiment-2 where he served as a Platoon Sergeant in Motor Transport Company.
Upon graduation from Drill Instructor School, MCRD Parris Island, SC in June of 2008, Sergeant Major Batista was assigned to the 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Company “B” for duty as a Drill Instructor. During his tour with Company “B” he served as a Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Company Operations Chief, and promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. In September of 2010, he was reassigned to Company “D” for duty as the Follow Series Chief Drill Instructor, and was also meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.
After successfully completing Drill Instructor duty, Sergeant Major Batista received orders and transferred to Marine Wing Support Squadron-371, Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma, Arizona in August of 2011. He was assigned to Engineer Operations Company for duty as the Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of the Heavy Equipment Platoon, and later reassigned to serve as the Company First Sergeant. Following selection to the rank of First Sergeant in December of 2013, he was promoted and received orders to 3d Marine Special Operations Battalion.
In March of 2014, Sergeant Major Batista reported for duty with 3d Marine Special Operations Battalion, Company “N”, Camp Lejeune, NC, later re-designated as 3d Marine Raider Battalion in June of 2015. During his tour as the Company First Sergeant for Company “N” he participated in Exercise Combined Resolve, deployed to the Africa Command Area of Operations in April of 2015 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Trans Sahara, and again in 2017 to serve as the Senior Enlisted Leader of Special operations Command and Control Element Sahel and Maghreb a joint command with Special Operations Command Africa. He received orders in October of 2017 to 8th Engineer Support Battalion.
In February of 2018, Sergeant Major Batista was transferred to 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC, and was assigned to Company “A”, and Engineer Support Company as the Company First Sergeant. During his tour he deployed in support of Eager Lion 2018 to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, where he served as the Security Force Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Exercise. He was selected to the rank of Sergeant Major in November of 2018 and received orders to Site Support, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Garden City, NY.
Sergeant Major Batista was promoted to his current rank in July of 2019 and assumed the position as the Inspector-Instructor Sergeant Major, 2d Battalion, 25th Marines in August of that same year.
His personal awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (w/ gold star in lieu of fourth award), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (w/ gold star in lieu of second award).
