Sergeant Major Christian RodriguezPonciano

In August 1999 SgtMaj RodriguezPonciano enlisted in the delayed entry program, reporting to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego in June 2000. In September 2000, he reported to School of Infantry West for Marine Corps Combat Training. In October he reported to 29 Palms to attend small computer training course.

In November 2000 he reported to the H&S Company 4th Light Armor Reconnaissance Battalion, at Camp Pendleton California. While with 4th LAR, he was mobilized in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in January 2003. In 2006, he was mobilized in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and was deployed to Camp Lemonier in Djibouti as a provisional rifleman for 4th Provisional Security Company.

Following his initial six years as a SMCR Marine, he transferred to 3d Civil Affairs Group in Camp Pendleton, California. While with Civil Affairs he deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2010 as part of the I Marine Expeditionary Force. He was attached to 3d Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, where he served as their civil affairs attachment. In 2012 he was once again mobilized and deployed to Afghanistan this time as part of the II MEF G9/C9 and was subsequently attached to 2d Battalion, 8th Marines and 2d Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment as part of Regimental Combat Team 5, where he served as the Civil Affairs Team Chief.

In 2017 SgtMaj Rodriguezponciano, was activated and deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) to Baghdad, Iraq and later Erbil, Iraq. During this period, he was Staff NCOIC over a Combined Joint Civil Military and Psyop Inform and Influence team operating under the 10th Mountain Division. Additionally, while at OIR he served as the coordinator for humanitarian relief and deconfliction Operations Chief in conjunction with the Department of State, USAID, and United Nations Office of Coordination Humanitarian Aid.

SgtMaj Christian Rodriguezponciano was assigned as the Company 1stSgt for Company G, 2d Battalion, 23d Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division on June 1, 2021. While at Company G, he supported Integrated Training Exercise, Operation Allies Welcome, the mobilization exercises to certify the Company G for the Unit Deployment Program.

In October 2024 he was assigned as the Senior Enlisted Leader for Company A, Intelligence Support Battalion, Force Headquarters Group. While assigned to Company A, he oversaw the activation and deployment of Counterintelligence Marines to operations in support of AFRICOM, INDOPACOM, and NORTHCOM.

In February 2026, he assumed the duties and responsibilities of Squadron SgtMaj at MWCS-48 in Great Lakes, Illinois.

SgtMaj Rodriguezponciano's personal awards include the Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendations Medals with three gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, Army Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.

SgtMaj Rodriguezponciano, is a graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School CDEP, Command and Staff College CDEP and holds a bachelor's degree in political science and master's degree in Homeland Security Emergency Management from San Diego State University.
