Sergeant Major Scott L. Edwards

Sergeant Major Edwards reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA, in June of 1997. Upon graduation, he reported to Camp Pendleton, CA, for Marine Combat Training. Sergeant Major Edwards reported to Camp Johnson N.C., for Motor Transport Maintenance training where he was the honor graduate and assigned an MOS of 3521. His first unit was Marine Air Support Squadron 2 in Camp Futenma, Okinawa. While there he deployed to Yuma, Arizona in support of the 1999 spring WTI class.

After that tour, Sergeant Major Edwards was assigned to 2nd Maintenance Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC. While with 2nd Maintenance Battalion, he worked in the Fuel and Electric section, Engine Rebuild section, and the S-3 office. In June of 2001, he exited from active service.

In December of 2001, Sergeant Major Edwards returned to active duty and reported to 8th Communications Battalion in Camp Lejeune, NC, in January of 2002. In March of 2005, he deployed to Camp Fallujah, Iraq for six months in support of OIF 4-6. Upon return from deployment, he attended the Motor Transport NCO course on Camp Johnson, NC, where he was the honor graduate.

In June 2006, Sergeant Major Edwards received orders to Headquarters Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment. He was then temporarily assigned to 5th Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment where he was retrained for a civil affairs deployment to Iraq and assigned as a Civil Affairs Team Chief. In 2007, he deployed Camp Ramadi, Iraq, for 13 months in support of OIF 681.

Upon redeployment in March 2008, Sergeant Major Edwards reported for duty to Inspector & Instructor staff, Headquarters Battalion, 4th Marine Division, New Orleans, LA. He was assigned as the Battalion Maintenance Management Officer in charge of the inspection and management of seven satellite sites. Sergeant Major Edwards attended Motor Transport SNCO course 6-09 at Camp Johnson, NC, where he was the honor graduate.

In August 2011, Sergeant Major Edwards reported to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines. Sergeant Major Edwards then deployed to Afghanistan in 2012 for seven months in support of OEF 1-2 as the Battalion Motor Transport Chief. He was moved to the Battalion S-4 Chief billet during the deployment and remained there after returning from deployment. He was deployed again for seven months in January 2014 in support of SPMAGTF 14.1 as The Logistics Team Chief for an African solider training mission in Uganda. After the deployment, he attended Advanced Course in Camp Johnson, NC.

In December 2014, Sergeant Major Edwards reported to Marine Security Guard School class 2-15 for detachment commander training. After completion of school, he was assigned to detachments Baghdad, Iraq, and San Salvador, El Salvador. While on the Marine Security program, he was selected as the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group Detachment Commander of the Year for 2016. Sergeant Major Edwards was selected for First Sergeant in December of 2016 and he attended 1stSgt's Course in Quantico, VA in March 2017.

In June of 2017, he was reassigned as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for Region 2 (Middle East and South Asia), Marine Corps Embassy Security Group. In March 2019, Sergeant Major Edwards attended the E-8 Seminar in Okinawa, Japan. In November 2019 he attended the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy in Newport, RI, where he graduated with honors.

In June 2020, Sergeant Major Edwards received orders to Headquarters Company, 1st Marine Regiment, Camp Pendleton, CA, where he was the Senior Enlisted Advisor for Headquarters and Support Company, 1st Marine Regiment. In January 2021, Sergeant Major Edwards volunteered to deploy with Battalion Landing Team 1/1. He was transferred to Company A, BLT 1/1 and deployed October 2021 with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit on the USS PORTLAND in support of Westpack 21.2.

In June 2022, Sergeant Major Edwards reported to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron (HMH) 462 as the Squadron Sergeant Major. In April 2023, Sergeant Major Edwards deployed to Okinawa, Japan on Unit Deployment Program 23.2 supporting operations on Mainland Japan, Korea, Philippines, and Australia. HMH-462 was awarded the Marine Corps Heavy Lift Squadron of the Year for 2023.In October 2024, Sergeant Major Edwards reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 451 in Charlotte, NC.

Sergeant Major Edwards's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with 1 gold star in lieu of 2nd award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 4 gold stars in lieu of 5th award and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 gold stars in lieu of 3rd award.
