Sergeant Major Wilfredo Alas reported to Marine Corps Recruiting Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, in December 1997. PFC Alas attended Marine Combat Training, followed by MOS school, earning 1341 MOS, Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
On May 28th, 1998, PFC Alas reported to 4th Combat Engineer Battalion (CEB), Engineer Support, 1st Platoon in Baltimore, MD. He was assigned as Heavy Equipment mechanic. From 1999 to 2003, Cpl Alas conducted multiple construction projects in Quantico, VA. He also completed the Mount Warfare training package at Bridgeport, CA.
In February 2004, Corporal Alas was deployed with 4th CEB Baltimore to Kirkush, Iraq, with Joint Task Force (JTF) as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic and operator. Corporal Alas' primary duties were to fortify the FOB security and assist the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD).
In 2006, Sergeant Alas deployed with 4th CEB, Company C, to Al-Asad, Iraq. He moved through different billets, including company Gunny, maintenance chief, and route clearance team throughout Ambar Providence. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant in al-Alasad, Iraq, during his deployment. He conducted construction and security operations with a team of engineers in the city of Hitt.
Staff Sergeant Alas returned to 4th CEB Baltimore as maintenance Chief for Heavy Equipment Platoon. In 2008, he was assigned the billet of Company Gunny for Engineer Support Company.
In 2011, Gunnery Sergeant Alas deployed with Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Force 13.3 to Uganda, Africa. He was assigned the billet of Logistic Officer for Special Operations Command Africa Forward (SOCAFWD) in Entebbe, Uganda, with the 5th Special Forces Group. GySgt Alas operated throughout Uganda, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In 2015, Gunnery Sergeant Alas was promoted to First Sergeant and was assigned to 6th Engineer Support Battalion, Bulk Fuel, Bravo Company in Wilmington, Delaware.
First Sergeant Alas was assigned to 2/25 Echo Company in Pennsylvania in May 2018 for duty as Company First Sergeant.
In June 2019, First Sergeant Alas reported to Headquarters and Service Company 1/25 for duty as the H&S Company First Sergeant. The Battalion was mobilized for Unit Deployment Program (UDP) 20.1 West. During this time, he participated and assisted other companies in Bilateral Exercises such as Fuji Viper, Forest Light, and Northern Viper within the Indo-Pacific Command area of operations.
Sergeant Major Alas was promoted and assumed his post as Sergeant Major of HMLA-773, MAG-49, 4th Marine Air Wing in July 2020.
SgtMaj Alas assumed his current post with HMH-772, MAG-49, 4th Marine Air Wing in May 2023.
Sergeant Major Alas worked at an office supply store as a General Manager for over 24 years, where he moved to multiple locations and billets. He received multiple awards. Sergeant Major is currently working with the Department of Energy's Insider Threat Program. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Organizational Management from Ashford University. His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
