Marine Awarded Silver Star for Vietnam War Heroics
Retired Maj. Gen. John Admire (right) handshakes retired Maj. Edward F. Wright (left) at Portland, Ore., Feb. 1, 2019. Wright was awarded the medal for his actions on Aug. 21, 1967, when he led a reaction force against North Vietnamese forces that had ambushed an Army convoy and pinned down his company commander’s relief force. While exposed to intense enemy fire, Wright’s tactical skills and placement of fire support enabled his force to steadily advance and rescue the besieged Soldiers and Marines. Wright was a second lieutenant serving with Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment in the Republic of Vietnam at the time. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Andy O. Martinez)
