Capt. Tin Nguyen, a reserve infantry officer with 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, gives toys and candy to local children during a December, 2009 patrol to meet with local elders in a rural village here. The battalion’s reserve officers are currently leading several hundred Marines in counterinsurgency operations during their seven-month deployment to Afghanistan.
